Exhibition Statement

"Migrating birds are known to use both celestial and terrestrial navigation to find routes across the Atlantic. Examples include a Manx Shearwater homing 3000 miles from Wales to Boston in 12 days and a Leach Petrel flying from Sussex to Maine in 14 days.

In certain aspects the phenomena of "goal-oriented" navigation across the Atlantic mirrors the patterns of travel and location work that has characterised the process of art-making in this international collaboration.

The mechanics of navigation relates more broadly to instinctive patterns and compulsive behaviour. The exhibition presents a multi-layered interpretation of the concept of migration as it pertains to human experience of displacement, dislocation, exile, refugees, etc.. Metaphorical connections with the natural world are a strong point of focus, referring to orientation, homing, nomadism, etc.. "
